Next to the site, brand new Seitz Park is at the head of the East Race Waterway, an internationally renowned artificial rapids running a mile through downtown South Bend. Summertime fun includes lifeguard-supervised raft and tube rentals, while kayakers frequent the challenging course.
Nearby in the river stands Mark di Suvero’s iconic 32-foot sculpture Keepers of the Fire, and Rob Shakespeare’s colorful River Lights. Adjacent Howard Park offers a community center, ice ribbon and splash pad, a riverside green for picnics and live performances, plus an amazing accessible playground.
